BRIAN PAIGE RECEIVES BEACON AWARD

UMASS SHINES AT NCLC
By Mike Davidsohn, MCLP, Senior Lecturer UMass
We are very happy to report that the UMass National Collegiate Landscape Competition( NCLC) performed well at this year’ s event at Michigan State University. The UMass Team placed 15th out of 54 colleges and universities with more than 725 students in attendance – it was one of our strongest showings.
We cannot thank MALP enough for your continued support. Your association is one of our longest running supporters! Some of you may remember that MALP funded my first trip to what was then PLANET’ s student event at the University of Maryland in 2005. I went to see what the competition was about and how our students could be involved. The next year we had two students participate at BYU. That has now grown to 12-15 of our strongest students going up against over 50 programs from across the country and regularly placing in the top 15 and taking top three in many of the higher profile competitions: Hardscape, Arboriculture, and Plant Installation.
MALP’ s generous support allows our students to apply and test their knowledge and skills in a series of landscape and horticulture related design, build, operations, and identification events showing how strong their education is against hundreds of other students from across the country.
Next year’ s NCLC will be held at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, OH. Learn more at https:// www. landscapeprofessionals. org / NCLC.
