Welcome back!

Welcome back to the new school year! It has been quite a while since we have seen our children and families and we are delighted to welcome the boys and girls back to school this week. We know that the past few months will have been a very mixed bag for our families and we will have experienced lockdown in individual ways. The return to school marks a positive change for us all, and the hope of a return to something that feels a bit more familiar.

We would like to thank parents for their support over the first few days back as we find our way with our new arrangements; the government’s advice has been updated and changed innumerable times and many establishments and organisations have been operating in new ways for as long as 6 months now. We have only just begun our full return to school and so we are fully committed to reviewing how we do things to ensure that they are working as well as they can; we are keen to ensure that any adjustments are well-planned and communicated in a timely manner. Please keep an eye on our Twitter feed (@stjohns_eagle) for information and advice.

The school has been a hive of activity over the summer; you may have noticed the scaffolding round the KS2 building where we are having a new roof installed; we have had a new fire alarm and smoke sensor system installed across the whole school building and we have had entry control security installed on exterior and some interior doors. This is part of our long term commitment to ensuring that our pupils have a safe and secure school environment.

We have welcomed some new staff to our school at the start of the new term: Mrs Tracy Harris is our SENCo; Tracy works at St John’s on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Mrs Simone Sinclair is our Pastoral Manager and works full-time in school. Both are here to offer help and support to our pupils and families, and can be contacted via the school office (phone or email). We have a new teacher, Miss Rachel Hall working with our Y4 children and Mrs Kim Greenaway is our Office Support Manager, working in the main school office. Parents and children may be familiar with teacher, Miss Amelia Askew who has returned after her maternity leave to re-join our Early Years team. We are delighted to welcome all of them to our school community and look forward to working together with them to ensure that all of the St John’s children have the best opportunity to succeed.

With our strong, committed team, our delightful pupils and the support of parents and families, I am confident that St John’s will have a positive and successful year!
