harvest festivals

Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our very popular Harvest celebrations on Wednesday.

St John’s church was packed to bursting and the children put on some lovely performances of songs, poetry and drama.

Jeanette Thomas who led the service, reminded us all of our responsibility for looking after God’s gift of creation, and the small changes that we can all make, which together, can make a big difference.

A message from Jeanette Thomas, St John’s Church, Essington:

Dear parents/carers,

I am a Children, Youth and Families Minister and the link between St John's Primary Academy and St John's Church. I deliver the school’s collective worship bi-monthly, and you may have met me at school leavers’ services, Harvest, Christmas, Easter, Christingle, or the Crib Services.

Apart from my school visits, I lead a faith-based group for under 5 year olds at St John’s Church Hall every Friday from 9.30-11am. A number of our little learners are now in Reception and our numbers have fallen. I would dearly love to build the groups numbers back up to a viable level. Our mornings are structured, parents/ carers stay, we have songs, faith based storytelling, crafts in line with the theme of the day and plenty of time for fun and fellowship, drinks and cake afterwards.

If you have pre-school children, we would love to see you. Our group provides the perfect stepping stone for faith based learning for children entering St John's Primary Academy.

You can find my contact details on the Church website for any further info.

There is no booking required and no cost, just come along! If you have any experience of our group please spread the word: many parents enjoy it as much as the children! I look forward to meeting you.

Essington Food Bank

As part of our Harvest celebrations, the children and their families have been supporting Essington food Bank. Your donations of tins, packets and dried goods have come in thick and fast, and we have been overwhelmed by your generosity. Thank you to everyone for supporting this local cause that helps children and families in our community; it is yet

another demonstration of the kindness and thoughtfulness that we see at St John’s everyday.

Also please note on Sunday 13th October, 2-4pm at the Tea Rooms there will be a 'Soup Share' hosted by Essington in Bloom. This is a swapping soup made from vegetables grown from the school garden and all donations will go towards Essington foodbank.
