Conference 2015
Leading
Students to
the Treasure
that is
Education was
the theme of
the 5th Annual
Student
Leadership Conference which took place on Friday,
May 15, 2015 at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest, in
Brooklyn Park. The annual conference hosted by
Northwest Suburban Integration School District
(NWSISD) united a diverse group of high school
students from across the eight member district
consortium. Students had the opportunity to
participate in workshops featuring: LuLuLemon teaching the ins and outs of group interviews;
Communicating with Vigor - provided students the
proper tools to recognize, identify, and respect each
others differences through communication; Leading by
Example - illustrated what leadership is and what it
looks like at Champlin Park High School. Students
also participated in
various competitions and
attended a college and
career fair.
New Wilderness
Project’s Benjie Howard
and Wade ColwellSandoval presented
BORDERLESS™, an
interactive, multimedia keynote address.
BORDERLESS™ is a vision of “creative stewardship”
across intersecting societal dynamics that include
race, class, identity, immigration, sexual orientation,
gender, and environmental and indigenous justice. At
the crossroads of folk and hip hop musical expression;
the keynote engagement wove original song, spoken
word and video storytelling together to engage young
people in a journey beyond our cramped headspace
into the endless landscape of the heart.
BORDERLESS™ is designed to empower students in
their journey of deep, meaningful and passionate
learning.
