Northwest Suburban Hosts First Edcamp Magnet
On Saturday February 1 , NWSISD hosted Edcamp Magnet at Maple Grove Junior High . Twenty educators spent the day sharing their experiences and professional expertise . The topics of the day , chosen by those in attendance , included ; Genius Hour , Role of the Curriculum Integration Coordinator , how to utilize the Edcamp format for professional development within a school , methods for structuring “ What I Need Time ”, the Maker Movement , and how to engage families in the magnet theme .
In attendance were teachers from the Anoka-Hennepin , Buffalo-Hannover-Montrose , Elk River , Fridley , Osseo and Rockford Districts . Participants valued the format in which they were able to learn from colleagues who work in similar roles in magnet schools across the collaborative .
NWSISD thanks Osseo Area Schools for the generous donation of space for the event .

Summer Enrichment Fair - February 19 , 2014 , 2 - 6 p . m . For the second year , Northwest Suburban will host a Summer Enrichment Fair geared to both parents and school personnel . Individuals will have the opportunity to meet with a variety of organizations and will leave with information about various summer programs and potential student scholarships for summer camps and activities . Exhibitors include : Three Rivers Park District , Concordia Language Villages , North Hennepin Community College , Camp Fire MN , Osseo Area Schools Community Education Camp ROCKS , BestPrep , Hennepin County Library , and more !
Northwest Suburban ’ s Celebration of Black History Brings Voice of Culture Drum and Dance to Park Elementary School Students at Park Brook Elementary in the Osseo Area School District will participate in an allschool Black History Celebration on Mon ., Feb . 24 from 9:30 a . m . - 1:30 p . m . The day will start with a video timeline tribute featuring the contributions of Black Americans . Students will then have the opportunity to participate in small group learning sessions highlighting Black American music , art , and storytelling . After lunch , Kenna Cottman ’ s Voice of Culture will perform by singing and dancing in the cultural tradition . Voice of Culture is “ West African Drum and Dance with a Black American twist !”
Leaders Igniting the Flame Within - Student Leadership Conference 2014 Pick your competition - Get ready to lead and compete at the Student Leadership Conference 2014 , April 17 , 8 a . m . - 1:30 p . m . The Student Leadership Conference is in its fourth year . The purpose of the conference is to teach teamwork , leadership skills and workplace values ; promote interest in the field of education ; and encourage students to enroll in a four-year college .
