Schools and Students in the News! Students named winners in STEM contest Blaine High School (CEMS program) produced two winners in the STEM Fuse arcade’s Got Game contest, which concluded earlier this month. The contest challenged students to create computer games using Construct 2 by Scirra. Read more here. Bees, butterflies supported by young friends in Maple Grove Weaver Lake Elementary School fifth grade students met on the grounds of Boston Scientific in Maple Grove June 1 to work with staff at Boston Scientific to plant these items. Minnesota Native Landscapes provided the native prairie plants and instructions. This is a collaborative project that combines students, businesses and environmental organizations all working together to promote an increase in the local monarch population. Read more here. Celebrating Mexico with mariachi music at REAMS During the 2015-16 school year, Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet School (REAMS) students have been studying the cultures of Mexico and Central American countries including Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Panama. Students have the opportunity to gain insight and compare cultural differences in language, food, cultural practices, clothing, the arts, climate and education. When students learn about other cultures, they learn about other people – how they see life, how they live, and what they think is important. Read more here.
