COLLABORATING FOR EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE
LIbrary improvements at Champlin Park High School modernize facilities to maximize student learning . The project also included a front-entrance security upgrade and relocation of administrative offices to improve efficiency and safety .
Maintaining the public investment in district facilities
With over six million square feet located in 50 facilities , the Anoka-Hennepin School District coordinates a prioritized system to identify , fund and ensure the taxpayer investment in school facilities is protected .
The school district utilizes a variety of funding sources to address needs using a “ pay as you go ” funding approach , eliminating the use of bonds or debt to finance projects . Long Term Facility Maintenance Revenue - normally referred to as LTFM - and capital funds based off-state funding formulas provide a large portion of the revenue available . Funds from the child nutrition program and School Board directed strategic investment are also utilized where necessary .
Infrastructure protection : From HVAC dehumidification projects that aim to cool classrooms to security projects geared to keep students and staff safe , Anoka-Hennepin has pursued 52 different projects over the past two years , bringing resources to every location in the district . Highlights include :
• HVAC dehumidification projects at Sand Creek , Hamilton , Eisenhower and McKinley elementary schools . These are multi-year projects completed in phases over several years .
• Library renovations at Andover High School , Anoka High School , Anoka Middle School for the Arts - Fred Moore campus , Champlin Park High School , Coon Rapids High School , and Coon Rapids Middle School .
• Kitchen renovations and / or cooler freezer replacements at Anoka and Champlin Park High Schools ; Adams , Crooked Lake , Lincoln , Morris Bye , Monroe , and Ramsey elementary schools .
Fit for the Future complete : In 2017 , voters in Anoka-Hennepin approved a bond referendum request to make schools “ Fit for the Future .” Following the recommendation of a 30-member community task force and considerable public dialogue and review , voters endorsed the $ 249 million plan which includes :
• Additional classroom space with the construction of two schools - Brookside Elementary in Ramsey and Sunrise Elementary in Blaine .
• Removal of 62 portable classrooms and additions on high schools to improve safety and adequate classroom space .
• Library and science room updates throughout the district .
This fall , the final project in the multi-year plan was completed with a project to improve the front entrance at Champlin Park High School for safety was completed along with a remodel and upgrade to the school library and offices . The school is also completing the final phase of hydronic piping replacement throughout the building in the summer of 2025 , a project that is necessary to ensure proper heating and cooling of the facility .
In-House project management : The Anoka- Hennepin Buildings and Grounds Department performs construction management for all district projects , saving the two to three percent commission normally paid to consultants . This management system redirects the two to three percent commission normally paid to consultants into $ 1 to $ 2 million in projects annually , increasing and maximizing the district ’ s capacity to build , repair , replace , and maintain facilities . n
