Denise Schnabel , principal of Ramsey Elementary , honored with state Leadership Award
The Minnesota Elementary School Principals ’ Association ( MESPA ) named Denise Schnabel , principal of Ramsey Elementary School , the recipient of the 2024 North Suburban Division Leadership Award .

This honor recognizes Schnabel ’ s exceptional leadership , dedication to her students and staff , and innovative contributions to education . Throughout her career , Schnabel has demonstrated educational innovation , commitment to student success and community building . Schnabel has served in leadership roles within MESPA , including President-Elect and President of the North Suburban Division .
Recipients of the MESPA Division Leadership Achievement Award are selected by their peers across the state , for demonstrating exemplary leadership within their schools , communities , and MESPA , embodying transformational leadership propelled by genuine care and dedication to their students , staff , and communities .
MESPA is the premier leadership resource for elementary and middle level principals , dedicated to connecting , developing , and providing resources for principals , and serving as a leading voice for Minnesota education . n

Ten district student-athletes recognized for their work in sports and the arts
Ten Anoka-Hennepin student-athletes have been nominated for the Minnesota State High School League ( MSHSL ) Triple “ A ” Award for the 2024-25 school year .
Each year , the MSHSL honors student-athletes who excel in Academics ( 3.0 GPA or better ), Athletics ( at least one MSHSL-sponsored athletic activity ) and Arts ( MSHSL-sponsored debate , oneact play , speech , visual arts , and instrumental or vocal music ). The award is given to one senior female and one senior male in the state .

Anoka , Blaine , Champlin Park and Coon Rapids high schools represent Region 5AA while Andover High School is in Region 7AA for the MSHSL Triple “ A ” Award .
Each school in the state can nominate one senior female and one senior male student for consideration . Triple “ A ” Award recipients are selected through a multi-level process involving member schools of the league , the league ’ s administrative regions , and a special committee of educators , business leaders , and members from the fine arts and athletics communities . n

Emily Payán , teacher at Ramsey Elementary School , was recently selected as a recipient of a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching ( PAEMST ) in the Minnesota Mathematics award category . The award recognizes significant contributions award recipients have made to the teaching profession and in the areas of science , technology , engineering , and mathematics .

The PAEMST are the highest honors bestowed by the U . S . government specifically for K-12 science , technology , engineering , and mathematics teaching . The awards were established by Congress in 1983 and the President recognizes around 100 exemplary teachers each year .
The award recognizes teachers who have deep content knowledge of the subjects they teach and the ability to motivate and enable students to succeed in those areas .
Payán will be able to visit the White House in the future to receive the award , along with $ 10,000 . n

Duke University and Washington University St . Louis up next for two Blaine High School seniors . scholarships through the 2024 QuestBridge National College Match program .
QuestBridge connects highachieving high school seniors who demonstrate financial need and high potential for success with full four-year scholarships to 52 of the nation ’ s top colleges .
Arafa and Es-Sabha advanced from a field of 25,500 applicants , eventually dwindling to 7,288 finalists and 2,627 recipients .
The pool of outstanding seniors to earn QuestBridge scholarships in 2024 have an average unweighted GPA of 3.94 and 92 % are in the top 10 % of their graduating class . The majority of this year ’ s recipients — 83 % — are among the first generation in their families to attend a four-year college in the United States .
Arafa will attend Washington University in St . Louis where she plans to major in Biology on a premed track . Es-Sabha will also pursue Biology and pre-med at Duke University , with the ultimate goal of a career in dermatology . n
