Seven teams qualify for Destination Imagination Global Finals
Eight teams representing Anoka-Hennepin Schools competed at the Destination Imagination state competition at Coon Rapids Middle School April 7 . Seven teams advanced to the Global Finals which will be held May 22-25 in Kansas City , Mo .
Teams from around the state competed in various challenge topics consisting of science , fine arts , improvisation , engineering and community service .
Over 150,000 students participate in Destination Imagination , and only the top one percent of teams qualify for the Global Finals . n

Engineering Challenge Elementary level
• Madison Elementary School , Space Launchers Crew , 3rd place
• Rum River Elementary , Crazy Bubblefish , 1st place
Middle level
• Oak View Middle School , The Ever Flaming Crystals , 2nd place
Improvisation Challenge Elementary level

Middle school students test literary knowledge in annual Battle of the Books competition

Teams of students first compete within their middle school community , with the winners advancing to a district-level Battle of the Books competition . The annual competition promotes reading and comprehension of literature in a fun and engaging format . A total of 19 teams representing all six middle schools battled to prove they learned key concepts from 25 books chosen for this year ’ s competition .
The winning team , who chose the name of “ Book-a-teers ,” was Hazel Schmitt , Sydney Schlichting and Siena Zaiser . The Battle of the Books coordinator at RMS is Jodi Blair , a sixth grade teacher .
“ This competition was really fun and I made some friendships along the way ,” Schmitt said . “ It made me read a lot more books than usual .”
“ I thought it was really fun and everyone was being really nice to each other ,” Schmitt said .
“ I thought the competition was really nice and everyone was really friendly ,” Zaiser said . “ Everyone was kind and there were good vibes .”

Food Service / Child Nutrition

The Child Nutrition program provides high quality , nutritious meals to the district ’ s students at 40 + sites .
• Full-time , part-time , substitute and flexible schedules available .

School-age child care / Adventures Plus

Adventures Plus is the district ’ s school-age before- and after-school , and non-school days care program offered to all families enrolled in the school district .
• Program hours : 6:30-9:30 a . m . and / or 3-6 p . m . Work 2 to 3 hour shifts early morning , late afternoon , or both .
• Supervise and interact with schoolage children and assist with planning activities .
• Starting pay : $ 16.50 / hour and up depending on qualifications and experience .

Buildings and Grounds / school custodians

Keeps schools clean and orderly , perform simple repairs to schools , furniture and equipment . Positions at 40 + sites .
• Excellent benefits ( medical , pension , 403b match , paid time off , vacation and sick leave ).
• Full-time and substitute positions available .
• Hours available on the 2nd or 3rd shift and 1st shift during the summer .
• Starting pay : $ 20 / hour and up depending on qualifications and experience .

Paraprofessionals

Anoka-Hennepin utilizes paraprofessionals in a variety of working areas , including classroom , special education , transportation and health support .
• Paraeducator starting pay : $ 17 / hour and up depending on qualifications and experience .
• Special Education Paraeducator starting pay : $ 18 / hour and up depending qualifications and experience .
• Transportation paras starting pay : $ 16.50 / hour depending on qualifications and experience .
• Health paras starting pay : $ 20.50 / hour and up depending on qualifications and experience .
