Extracurricular activities
Anoka-Hennepin Community Education coordinates programs to
support students after-school, in the evening and on the weekend.
These programs provide fun, hands-on opportunities for children to
meet friends, develop skills and explore new interests.

such as arts and crafts, athletics, recreation, theatre, language and
science exploration. Families may enroll in enrichment opportuni-

Volunteers make
a difference
You can too!
Anoka-Hennepin Schools are
grateful that each year, more than
11,200 dedicated volunteers con-
tribute thousands of hours of their
time, energy and talents to support
our schools, students and staff.
It’s easy to apply online
to volunteer!
The online application system is
quick and easy to complete, and
saves time coordinating our resources
- which means that we can spend
more time and talent serving our students,
staff and schools.
Visit ahschools.us/volunteer to find and
complete the application form for your
school, or to be assigned to a school with a
specific need.
All volunteers must complete:
• An online volunteer application form.
• An online criminal record history release
form for each school at which they
volunteer.
Adventures Plus Specialized opportunities
DISCOVER. PLAY. DEVELOP. K-Skillbuilders: Volunteers work with
students one-on-one to develop lifelong
literacy and math skills.
school-age care
Limited openings are still available at select school sites.
Adventures Plus school-age care offers before- and
after-school care options for families with children enrolled
in an Anoka-Hennepin elementary school.
Openings
The registration deadline for the 2019-20 school year
was in March 2019, but limited openings are still available at
some sites. Adventures Plus also offers care on school release
days, which are dates that there is no school due to staff
development or holiday breaks. A variety of care options
are available to meet each family’s needs.
Current families - open house
We encourage families currently enrolled in the Adventures Plus
school-age care program to visit their site’s open house on Tuesday,
Aug. 27. (Times vary based on each school’s open house.) New families
will be able to pick up a fob in order to enter the site for drop-off
(as early as 6:30 a.m.) and pick-up (as late as 6 p.m.).

Challenge Reading: Volunteers provide
children with additional opportunities to foster
a love of reading outside of the classroom
by introducing various genres of literature,
extending students' writing connections, and
promoting higher level thinking skills.
Math Plus: Volunteers provide ongoing
mathematical experiences for students in
grades kindergarten through grade five to
reinforce problem solving, logic and reasoning.
Volunteers serving these specialized opportu-
nities for the first time must attend a two-hour
training session at the Educational Service Cen-
ter in Anoka. View and register for the training
