Progress is at the heart of the 21st century . Never in history have we been so efficient at spreading ideas , modernizing our economy and sharing our values . In a globalized , digital era , change can be found at almost every layer of society . Technological advancements from smartphones to iPads , successful startups like Airbnb and Uber , and other communication tools , have all brought us closer together than ever before . Societal issues such as women ’ s rights and LGBT rights are being tackled and put at the front line of the international societal agendas , and through social media , our creativity and opinions can be shared widely across the globe instantly . Progress is on the rise and it seems like nothing can stop its course . This is our status quo .
Yet , we are facing increasingly difficult and unprecedented challenges at all levels of our society , and we mustn ' t overlook them ; instead , we need to embrace them and move beyond them . Whether that means focusing more on the environment and sustainability , pressing the need to reform our education system , or creatively expressing ourselves , we need to come together to be inspired and enact real change in our communities .
