The Walk: A Movie Review
By Dissanayake D M Dimendri Sanduni
This is a movie I recently watched with my family and we were all absolutely mesmerized.“ The Walk” is a movie based on a true story about a French high-wire artist named Philippe Petit who illegally walked between – what were – the Twin Towers in the New York City World Trade Center. This hair-raising movie is directed by Robert Zemeckis and was released in
2015 by TriStar Pictures. Petit is determined to walk across the Twin Towers despite the consequences of this act being illegal and the high possibility of death. Determination, strength, and courage are just a few of the lessons one can expect to discover from this incredible movie.
Philippe had an interest in wire walking since he was a young boy; yet, no one took him seriously. As a grown man, Philippe continued to be passionate about wire-walking, and even attempted to walk on a wire at the circus when nobody was there. However, someone spotted him. It was Papa Rudy, the circus owner who asked Philippe to leave. Later on with much persuasion, Papa Rudy agreed to teach Philippe the art of wire-walking under the condition that he was paid. Philippe then left his parents to pursue his dream of wire-walking. Along his way, he met Annie who was singing on the street, and evidently fell in love with her! Next, Philippe met Jean-Louis, a photographer and a skillful archer, and eventually became the one to help Philippe‘ shoot’ the wire from one twin tower to the other. As a team, all three of them set up for their first act, which was at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
