Do you have a favorite memory of the East Wing ? My favorite memory , while there are many , is our annual Salute to Veterans . We have a very touching ceremony with the Attea Middle School band and chorus performing and a flower ceremony in Lake Glenview . It ’ s very heartwarming and the audience gets very teary eyed while Taps is being played . Of course , this is free for anyone to attend ! ▪

Director of the East Wing
How long have you lived in Glenview ? I have lived in Glenview and the surrounding area for 42 years . Over the course of this time , my husband , my children and , more recently , my grandchildren have actively engaged in tons of events and activities that have collectively forged lasting , cherished memories for our entire family .
How long have you served as East Wing Director ? I have been the East Wing Director for ten years . I have worked for the park district for 27 years as a full-time employee . I began my career as the Rugen Community Center Director in 1981 .
Who is the East Wing for ? The East Wing is a great place for anyone age 55 years and over . There is something for everyone here ! East Wing members go on trips to the theatre , musical performances and lunches in quaint Wisconsin towns , among other activities . Our many special events feature local talent and catered lunches . Members have the opportunity to learn new skills here including Mah Jongg , canasta , bridge and knitting or crochet . Members enjoy dropping in and playing games like Rummikub , Pinochle , Duplicate Bridge , and more . We have a very busy calendar !
Why is supporting the East Wing important ? The East Wing Glenview Senior Center has been an important part of the community since 1958 , with only three directors in all that time . Getting out of the house to socialize and have fun with friends cannot be replaced with a television or radio . Participating in activities and engaging with others is important for mental health .
What ’ s your favorite special event at the East Wing ? Our spring and holiday luncheons are held at beautiful local country clubs with amazing food and entertainment . Our summer BBQ is always one of my favorites with food coming straight off the grill and , this year , “ Elton John ” performing after lunch .
