Workshops in Focus IT favorites from the 2016-2017 school year Sasha Sikorska The workshop that I enjoyed the most this year was 'Ukraine and What's Special About It', specifically the one that was held on March 10th. I remember students at that workshop were very active and interested in the topic. They participated, asked questions, and seemed to be willing to learn more about the country that I came from, which was unfamiliar to them.  It's always very enjoyable to hold a workshop that fascinates students. It was also great because I was happy to share the special facets of my country. I will definitely have this workshop next year when I am a Senior International Tutor, so that local students can broaden their knowledge about the world.  Fel Casteñeda It is difficult to choose my favorite workshop from this semester. It must be one of the speculative fiction workshops we held at the ASLLC; Writing for Horror Fiction, Writing for Fantasy Fiction, and Writing for Science-Fiction. It was really satisfying to see students become inspired by different works of fiction, and exercise their creativity by pitching their own ideas for a short story. We had interesting discussions about the artistic, scientific, and cultural value of speculative fiction, and perhaps why it is not taken as seriously in the academic world. We were also able to talk about different works in popular culture and how they relate to these genres, so a lot of our talks had references to the sorts of movies, books, games, and stories that generally tend to capture our imagination the most.
