Federation of Euro-Asian Stock Exchanges (FEAS) and its Member Armenia Securities Exchange (AMX) join the “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” Initiative
For the first time in Armenia, FEAS and its member AMX joined the “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” initiative to open the market in celebration of International Women’s Day 2019.
FEAS is proud to take part in today’s global collaboration across more than 80 stock exchanges to “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality”. The events are a partnership between IFC, Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) Initiative, UN Global Compact, UN Women, the World Federation of Exchanges and Women in
ETFs, to raise awareness about the business case for women’s economic empowerment and the opportunities for the private sector to advance gender equality and sustainable development.
The UN Women’s theme for International Women’s Day 2019 is ‘Think equal, build smart, innovate for change’. The theme focuses on innovative ways in which the private sector can advance gender equality and women’s empowerment, particularly in the areas of social protection systems, access to public services, and sustainable infrastructure.
In March 2018, a record 65 exchanges rang their bells for gender equality, and this year looks set to beeven bigger, with more than 80 exchanges confirmed as taking part.
Ms. Armenuhi Hovakimyan, FEAS Deputy Secretary General said: “It is a first time the Federation of Euro-Asian Stock Exchanges joins the initiative and the first time we will ring the bell for Gender Equality in Armenia. Raising awareness for the importance of gender equality which is the 5 th goal of Global Goals we are doing step forward to encouragement of girls and women to be educated, confident and brave. The theme of the 5 th Ring the Bell for Gender Equality in “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change”. I can’t agree more. Early childhood development and learning should start and based on the strong statements of equality in all the forms and sphere. ”
Ms. Mehjabeen Alarakhia, Programme Specialist in UN Women said: “The stock exchange is the champion and the role model for private sector companies to promote gender equality and women empowerment principles. Gender equality is good not only for sustainable development but also for economic growth”, said Mehjabeen Alarakhia, Programme Specialist, UN Women.
