CRHS senior hits right
notes in competition
Hours upon hours
of training and
rehearsing paid off
for Coon Rapids High
School (CRHS) senior
Jad Stanfield at a
singing competition
held Nov. 1-2 at St.
John’s University in
Collegeville, Minn. Jad Stanfield
Stanfield entered
into the Minnesota National Association of
Teachers of Singing, Inc. classical and music
theatre competitions and finished in first place
in his division of the music theatre finals. The
competition featured a rigorous weekend of
singing, especially for students like Stanfield,
who competed in both the classical and
theatre fields.
After the first day of competition, Stanfield
advanced to the finals in the musical theatre
division, and on day two, he sang his way to a
first-place finish in his division.
CRHS vocal music teacher, Amy Johnson,
lauded Stanfield for his work ethic.
“Any student who dedicates hours of their
personal time to training a specific skill has to
have grit, perseverance, and drive,” Johnson
said. “Jad has all three, plus a lot of talent to
boot. He really put in a lot of time to hone his
creative craft and we as a staff and our choral
students were excited to celebrate with him
after he won.” n
