Editor's Note Belinda Zhou | International Tutor Welcome to the third volume of the ASLLC Newsletter! My name is Belinda Zhou, and I will be taking over from Kaitlyn as editor of the newsletter this year. I am originally from New York City and am very excited to be living in the equally dynamic and cosmopolitan Hong Kong this year. As one of the International Tutors, I have already had the opportunity to interact with many students and to learn a lot about the language, culture, and politics of Hong Kong. I hope to gather even more information as the year progresses. To start off the new school year, I made the theme of this issue "New and Changing Perspectives." In this vein, this issue will start off by introducing you to the new International Tutor team. We provide one-on- one consultations, English workshops, and casual conversation at the English café. Following that, you will be seeing a number of articles from students of all different majors spanning a variety of topics. We open with Dora's article, in which she shares how studying psychology has changed her life. Julie will then discuss the ways in which majoring in education has changed her perspective on the system in Taiwan. Venus is sharing a semi-autobiographical essay about a life-changing teacher, while Tyler writes about his evolving view on Hong Kong. Both June and Mike will talk about social media has changed our lives--for better or worse. Yetta, Linda, and Sing chose to write about their exchange experiences in the US, Germany, and England, respectively. Ella's article closes out this issue, with a focus on Christopher Nolan's unique take on war in Dunkirk . 50 69 The majority of these writers have committed to writing regularly for the newsletter and will be helping to put together the coming issues, so keep an eye out for their work. We will be working together to build an English-language writing community. Anyone interested in joining the team is still welcome to do so! Additionally, I'd like to thank David Brown at the CLE for his assistance during the editing process. We all sincerely hope that you enjoy this issue of this newsletter--and perhaps experience your own change in perspective. NOVEMBER 2017 | 03
