Newsletter (2017-2018) March 2018 Newsletter | Page 4

EDITOR’S NOTE Belinda Zhou International Tutor I hope you are all enjoying the sunny spring weather now that winter has ended here in Hong Kong! Although you might be dealing with various exams, group projects and essays now, soon enough you will be enjoying your summer holidays, or, in the case of our soon-to-be graduates, experienc- ing a new phase of your lives. In this issue of the newsletter, the student contributors grapple with the theme of “nostalgia”, some- thing many of you might be feeling in a few months’ time. Each writer has a unique and personal approach to this theme, and they hope that their articles prompt you to recall some of your own warm memories. Linda opens the issue by reflecting on how her relationships with others and her dreams have changed since secondary school. Following that, June discusses what it has been like for her to leave her hometown and move to Hong Kong for her studies. She relates her experience to that of so many others who have left home to pursue opportunities elsewhere. Qinxin focuses on food from her hometown, Hangzhou, in her article and the local values that certain dishes reflect. Philip, a new writer for the newsletter, shares a deeply personal piece about his relationship with his late grandmother and the final journey he took to visit her. Continuing with the familial theme, Barbora writes about a moment she shared with her mother and a special “box of memories”. Final- ly, the issue closes with Tyler’s short story describing a changing relationship. If any of the articles seem like something you would be interested in writing, you are welcome to submit your work or contact us with questions. Please look to the final page of the newsletter for more information. Once again, I am incredibly grateful to David Brown of the CLE for his thoroughness in editing the newsletter. Happy reading!
