A Daydreamer’ s Weird Inspirations

By Mike Poon

I was adventuring on the other side of the Earth, arriving at my dream house and numerous lovely dogs and cats, which I have always wanted to breed. All nuisances were put aside. Then I was burning every piece of homework I found in the local school. My heart almost popped out in the next second, not because the cops caught me for arson, but because the teacher slammed my table with her ruler and burst out,“ Mike! Stop daydreaming and get your mind back in the class!”. That was how my adventure ended every time during lessons.
Daydreaming is where my inspirations come from, even now. It’ s not only about fantasies that are not likely to happen, but also reflections of and ideas about my life, with perspectives on both academic and daily issues. I’ m still wondering why my teacher interrupted my dreams every time –– definitely not because I’ ve been daydreaming since the start of the class!
The best places to daydream, outside of boring classrooms, are in bed, under shower heads and on toilets. The bed is a wonderful place for daydreaming, although most of the time you are unwilling to do so, especially after consuming caffeine. I have checked the dictionary for the definition of“ daydream”: it does not necessarily occur in day time, but also at night, as long as you are dreaming without sleeping. Eighty-percent of the content of this article came to me while I was in bed; I intended to sleep that night but ended up sleeping at 2 am.
The shower head and the toilet are usually located in the same place –– the bathroom. This place is as magical as bed. We usually do two things which relax us inside the washroom; I guess that’ s the reason why inspiration comes. Taking a hot shower is comforting, your tense muscles relax, and nuisances evaporate with the steam. Whereas excretion, well, you release any annoyances with your metabolic wastes. These two activities, honestly, are two of the most peaceful events in the day. During such a peaceful period of time, nothing interrupts your contemplation( except if your family knocks on your door shouting,“ Are you done yet?”). Inspirations comes when nothing is hindering you. A few teachers in my secondary school and even one lecturer in university told me to bring notes with me while doing my business, as they all agree the toilet is a magical place for thinking.
Daydreams mostly occur when you get bored. While bored, everything, even your hair, becomes interesting. I should put fantastical daydreams aside; certainly they are interesting, but it is meaningful to think about more serious ideas, but not necessarily boring, like the philosophy of life.
