Kejriwal hits back at Omar, says will sweep Kashmir polls

miscellaneous

New Delhi, February 11

Calling Omar Abdullah a 'dynasty politician', Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday said his Aam Admi Party (AAP) will sweep the forthcoming polls in the state.

Kejriwal while speaking at a Delhi Literature Festival said chief minister Omar Abdullah is a dynasty politician and that his party will soon open its offices in Jammu and Kashmir and will register a glorious triumph in the forth coming polls.

Replying to the question that Omar had recently challenged Kejriwal that his party will face defeat if it contests elections in the state, he said AAP will in near future open its offices in the state and will give lesson to the corrupt politicians there.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had said if Kejriwal's party fields candidates from the state for the general elections, they would lose their security deposits. Answering a question at a media conference in the winter capital Jammu about Kejriwal's allegation about his father and union minister Farooq Abdullah being "a tainted politician", Omar said he would not speak on Kejriwal's list of tainted politicians. Omar added if Kejriwal wanted to field his candidates from Jammu and Kashmir in the Lok Sabha polls, he was welcome to do so.

Over 1,800 youths granted amnesty in stone-pelting cases

STATE TIMES NEWS

JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said 1,811 youths were granted amnesty in stone-pelting cases registered in 2010-11 in the State. Amnesty had been granted to 1,811 youths involved in 230 cases of stone-pelting during 2010 and 2011, it was said in the Legislative Assembly.

Of these cases, 228 had been withdrawn and proceedings in the remaining two were underway, the government said in a written reply. It said there was no proposal under its consideration to grant amnesty to any militant or terrorist involved in heinous crime.

In August 2011, the State Government announced an amnesty scheme for the youths arrested since March 2010 in connection with stone-pelting and other related violence. This was done to facilitate youths to pursue higher education and to ensure that their involvement in these cases did not affect the verification of their character and antecedents for obtaining passports, jobs and loans, the written reply said.
