FOR A LOT OF US , THE FALL SEASON IS A VERY BUSY TIME FOR TRIBAL PEOPLE ACROSS THE STATE . It starts with California Indian Day at the end of September . Indigenous Peoples Day follows a few weeks later . Then in November , a lot of us get called away to participate in gatherings , festivals , and speaking engagements during Native American Heritage Month . For News from Native California , this particular fall is a very special time . We are officially celebrating both the ten-year anniversary of the establishment of the Heyday Berkeley Roundhouse ( the organization ’ s California Indian publishing program ) and the ten-year anniversary of Deborah Miranda ’ s memoir Bad Indians .
In this issue of News , we are so proud to feature a preview of some of the new material that will be featured in the new tenth anniversary edition of the book this October .
We are also very proud about some of the Roundhouse ’ s off-print activities !
Because we are a quarterly publication , we understand that some of our readers might miss the magazine ’ s content during the months in between . If that is the case and you
