Folks! Listen! You’ ve got trouble, right here in River City!” bantered Harold Hill in Meredith Willson’ s beloved musical Music Man.
The con artist and drifter convinced the locals that a community youth band would be able to protect the area’ s young people from the evil temptations found between the corner pocket and the side pocket at the pool hall. In many ways, marching bands have been competing ever since.
As the days of fall creep closer to our grasp, bringing with them the competition of our favorite sports, many of us overlook the fierce competition taking place as marching bands take the field, the streets and football stadiums across the country.
New Albany High School Director of Bands Nick Scroggins says that Indiana is easily one of the five most-competitive states for marching bands in the country.
