Bob Hill Writing Workshop- Another Successful Park Program
On a beautiful Saturday in August, 15 people gathered for a writing workshop with the popular author Bob Hill. They sat on stumps in the Friendship Circle at the Buttonbush Woods picnic grove. Cicada song came in waves, like the cyclists passing by. Bob held the group’ s attention from the get-go with a personal and frankly funny account of his own writerly development and adventures.“ I was always looking to slip into another world,” he said. In his writing, he relies on four key words:“ See, Hear, Feel, Think.”
Lively discussion brought out some memorable Bob-isms, like“ when in doubt, tell the truth.” He advised,“ Don’ t let your expectations get in the way …. Let the story come to you.”
And so they did, each writing a short piece and some brave enough to share. Said one,“ It reminds me of the drum circle, where strangers enter and leave as friends. Today we learned to listen, and that there’ s a story everywhere.”
