there from about 1999 to approximately 15 years ago, when they carved out the old dirt track configuration and raced there once again for a few weeks. Thirty years ago, Nick owned a large parcel of land in Utica and was contemplating building another speedway, but local officials shut down the idea.
“ Aside from the Clark Nickles racetrack ownership legacy, Nick might be best known for being Sportsdrome Speedway’ s No. 1 fan,” Brenda said.“ Not only does Nick sponsor a lot of local races, but he also sponsors tens, if not hundreds, of race cars over the years. Nick sponsored my Sportsdrome effort in 1989. Hoppy, the Powder Keg Kangaroo mascot, was mounted to the roof. The mascot was, and still is, a Sportsdrome status symbol. My husband, Clark‘ Nick’ Nickles, has spent thousands of dollars helping competitors get to the track for over forty years.”
Nick and Brenda owned the now closed Nick’ s Powder Keg Restaurant in Charlestown. Since 1997, Brenda and Paul Tinnel Jr. have co-owned Lakeside Reflections, which is a popular wedding and event venue. The Nick’ s Powder Keg Museum of Treasures is a great sponsor and advocate for our county’ s local racers.
