NICK ANDERSON AND BRAD BURDEN BATTLE THROUGH THE RAGING OHIO RIVER WATERS NEAR THE FALLS OF THE OHIO STATE PARK.
Burden sees an active lifestyle as one of the goals needed for a healthy, winning life. He believes that kayaking can provide an avenue for continuing exercise throughout life. Does kayaking ignite the competitive fire inside him?
“ Maybe competition isn’ t the right word,” said Burden,“ at least how we usually define it. We often think of competition as beating someone else. You are competing in kayaking as in most sports— but you are competing to be the best you can be. That is true shooting free throws or out on the river. I want to always strive for my best whether I am 30 or 50.”
“ There is also something very relaxing about kayaking. I am in beautiful surroundings, taking in nature, sharing good times with friends” Burden summed.“ Kayaking provides the perfect adventure.”
There are many ways to get started in kayaking, if you are interested. Several websites are available with video instructions, as well as local groups and kayaking launch sites. Burden has a YouTube site, B-Flow Kayaking(@ B-FLowkayaking), with instructional videos that introduce beginners and give them relevant information. He also gives private instruction.
