THERAPEUTIC TREATMENTS “THERE ARE SO MANY BENEFITS OF MASSAGE, FROM THE OBVIOUS STRESS RELIEF TO INCREASED CIRCULATION. FOR ACTIVE PEOPLE, IT’S IMPORTANT FOR SELF-CARE TO BREAK UP LACTIC ACID AND METABOLIC WASTE BUILDUP IN MUSCLE FIBERS.” MASSAGES AT THE NEWPORT BEACH COUNTRY CLUB SPA ALLOW MEMBERS TO RELAX AND UNWIND. CC Customized Massage: Experience a blend of different Western techniques in this therapeutic full-body massage. $109 for 50 minutes $149 for 80 minutes — ASHLEY LADNER in her hometown of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Becoming a massage therapist seemed to be a natural fit for Ladner, as her father works as a chiropractor and her mother is a yoga instructor. After she began attending school, she realized she had found her passion. “It seemed fitting because they already had an established business I could work for,” she says of her parents’ involvement in the wellness industry. “I moved to California in the summer of 2017, and applied to NBCC right away. I was ecstatic when Natalie hired me on the spot that September.” An avid beach-goer, Ladner says her favorite treatment at the spa is a hot stone massage because it’s relax- ing and efficient at melting knots. However, her ideal spa day would start off in the hot tub and sauna, followed by a 90-minute massage and a 90-minute facial. “There are so many benefits of massage, from the obvious stress relief to increased circulation,” she says. “For active people, it’s import- ant for self-care to break up lactic acid and metabolic waste buildup in muscle fibers.” Ladner has enjoyed working at the spa and helping out during the club’s special events, such as the Halloween party that she assisted N E WP O R T B E A CHCC .CO M with this past fall. “I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the members are really nice. I also have full-time benefits and was even awarded a scholarship through the club to go back to school,” she says. “It’s hard to find that in this profession, and it means a lot to me to work at a place that takes such good care of its employees.” A DREAM COME TRUE Kristin Brommer was interested in massage therapy since the early age of 6, and practiced on friends and family throughout her childhood. Once she was of age, she attended the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and has been working as a professional for the last five years. “As a massage therapist, I have a job where people are always happy to see me because I can help them to feel better in a very real and measurable way,” Brommer says. “It’s very rewarding to be able to do something that you’re really good at and passionate about and, at the same time, be able to make a posi- tive difference in someone’s life.” Brommer says her favorite treat- ment at the spa is a customized, 80-minute massage. Her own perfect spa day would include a 20-minute soak in the hot tub before this 80-minute massage, fol- lowed by a 25-minute body scrub and a 60-minute facial. When Brommer moved from New Mexico to California and was hired at NBCC, she was excited for the opportunity to work with mem- bers of a tightknit community. Her previous positions only allowed her to see a client once or twice while they were on vacation, so she truly enjoys interacting with and working on the members, who she says are friendly and welcoming. “Most people don’t have the time or energy to take care of their bodies in the way that we all should. And all that wear and tear can have huge negative impacts on the body, such as chronic pain, increased blood pressure, difficulty sleeping and injury,” she explains. “Massage can help with all these issues and, in my opinion, getting a regular mas- sage is really the most enjoyable way to counteract the stress and abuse of everyday life.” The hours of operation at the spa are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and ther- apists are available upon request otherwise.
