Locals and visitors to Tahlequah and the rest of Cherokee County use cars , planes , buses , and watercrafts to see what the area has to offer , whether that is down by the Illinois River or out by Cherokee Nation . As the COVID-19 pandemic has started to subside , most restrictions have gone to the wayside , with some still in place at certain locations .
Driver ’ s Licenses Testing
For those in Tahlequah needing to take their driver ’ s license exam , the Driver ’ s Exam Office is at 100 S . Phoenix Ave ., southwest of the Highway 51-Choctaw Street intersection , next to the Tahlequah Police Department .
The Tahlequah Driver ’ s License Exam Station provides several license-related options , which are offered Monday through Friday from 8 a . m . -noon and 1-4:45 p . m . The services include renewals for driver ’ s licenses , a road test , a written test , identification cards , and a commercial driver ’ s license test , with a corresponding written test .
All writing and driving tests , license applications and transfers , and ID card applications must be done during the morning session . The afternoon is to be used for taking the driving skills test by those seeking Class D and motorcycle licenses .
Appointments are required for driving tests , and applicants must have first passed the written exam before this portion of the process . When licenses are issued , fees must be paid to the tag agency . The application fee for a learner ’ s permit is $ 4 , while the driver ’ s license fee is $ 38.50 . Every time an applicant fails to pass the exam , a $ 4 fee will be applied .

License Renewals A tag agency can be of use to those needing to renew a driver ’ s license that is considered to be current or has not been expired for longer than a year . Immigrants must take the appropriate documents , including their license and immigration documents .
The Cherokee County Tag Agency is open Monday through Friday from 8 a . m . -5 p . m . at 25 Plaza South St . For more information , call 918-453- 2889 . The Ahmad Tag Agency in Park Hill is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a . m . -5:30 p . m . and from 8:30 a . m . -4:30 p . m . on Friday . The tag agency is at 26085 OK-82 .
Voter registration , record requests , driver ’ s manuals , applications for handicapped parking , and PikePasses may be offered by tag agents . Users must create an account at my . ok . gov in order to request ID cards , renewal or replacement driver ’ s licenses , and commercial driver ’ s licenses . State ID cards and duplicates are $ 25 . To receive a State ID card , users must have a valid Oklahoma address .
Tribal Licenses and Tags
The Cherokee Nation Tag Office is at 120 E . Ballentine Road and is open Monday through Friday from 8:15 a . m . -4 p . m . The tag office offers Cherokee Nation citizens car , motor vehicle , and boat tags . Only Cherokee citizens living in Oklahoma can acquire such tags . Motor vehicle tags are provided by the Cherokee Nation for farm trucks , commercial vehicles ,
military services , physically disabled , personalized and specialty tags , RV , and travel trailers .
To acquire tags , other than for a boat , several pieces of documentation are required including proof of insurance , documentation of the title , driver ’ s license , tribal membership , or “ blue ” card , any lien information , proof of residence , and an application for a Cherokee Nation certificate of title .
Boat tag requirements include a bill of sale , serial number verification , driver ’ s license , proof of residency , tribal citizenship card , lien information , and a completed application . All regular-class vehicles are available to have online tag renewals at tagoffice . cherokee .
The Keetoowah Tag Agency is at 18263 W . Keetoowah Circle and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a . m . -4:30 p . m . The Community Service lobby is again open to the public with precautions in place , such as allowing only four individuals into the lobby ’ s waiting area for service . As a courtesy reminder , renewal notices are sent to Keetowah members , which is not required for vehicle registration renewal .
Citizens must show a UKB membership card , title , lien information , a bill of sale for new purchases , and insurance verification . Cash , a cashier ’ s check made out to the United Keetoowah Band Tax Commission
