Cherokee National History Museum
Downtown Tahlequah is also home to the Cherokee National Capitol building , which housed the tribe ’ s executive , legislative , and judicial offices . The building was originally built in 1869 , and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designated a national landmark . Cherokee National Supreme Court Museum
The structure is the oldest government building still standing in the state of Oklahoma . It was built in 1844 and the purpose was to house the Cherokee National Supreme Court as well as the Cherokee Advocate , the official publication of Cherokee Nation and the first newspaper in Indian Territory . Cherokee National Prison Museum
The prison was built in 1875 to house criminals in Indian Territory . The museum is a two-building interpretive site that explores Cherokee crime and punishment , law enforcement , and an overview of famous outlaws in the area . For more information , visit www . visitcherokeenation . com
A cultural pathway connects several Cherokee Nation museums and sites for locals and visitors to the area . The pathway is designed as a park-like setting with places to sit and space for art installations .
Tahlequah Farmers ’ Market
Typically held at the pavilion near Norris Park in the middle of downtown , the Tahlequah Farmers ’ Market allows vendors to sell fresh fruits and vegetables , baked goods , dairy products , meat , plants , seeds , soaps and other locally grown and crafted goods . Tahlequah City Airport
The Tahlequah Municipal Airport sits just two miles northwest of downtown Tahlequah . With a 5,000-foot runway and modern terminal facilities , the airport welcomes and services both local and transient aircrafts . It ’ s 2,200-squarefoot terminal building contains a visitors ’ lounge , a meeting room , airport manager and flight training offices , restrooms , a flighting planning room and a quiet room for layovers . Its commercial aircraft hanger marks the recognition of the airport becoming an important factor in the commercial and industrial growth of Tahlequah . The facility is available for lease to corporate or private aircraft .
