Hooking Up

Whether it ’ s electricity , water or gas services , Cherokee County is home to a variety of entities cable of fulfilling utility needs for its roughly 50,000 residents . Most Cherokee County residents will receive electricity services through either Lake Region Electric Cooperative or Tahlequah Public Works Authority . The Northeastern Oklahoma Public Facilities Authority can provide natural gas service for those in the Tahlequah area . Meanwhile , gas and water in Hulbert are provided by the Hulbert Public Works Authority . LREC covers some areas of Tahlequah , but mainly provides electricity to residents in rural sections of the county . A quick call to TPWA or LREC can determine who will provide service .

Lake Region Electric Cooperative
For several years , LREC has been expanding its reach to service rural communities by offering a fiber optic network , which delivers high-speed internet , throughout the county . Tahlequah Public Works Authority
While it relocated to 710 W . Choctaw St . in Tahlequah in recent years , TPWA still provides utility services for much of the city . Deposits are required and vary , depending on the type of service needed . TPWA ’ s website , www . tahlequahpwa . com , has plenty of helpful information concerning billing policies , up-to-date deposit information , service suspension and helpful hints on how to read your bill . Hulbert Public Works Authority
HPWA provides natural gas and water service for Hulbert and in some areas outside of the town . A deposit is required for natural gas and water when establishing a new residential service . HPWA does not provide electrical service ( contact Lake Region Electric Cooperative ). For more information , call 918-772-2503 .
Tahlequah Cable TV
An array of TV options with local channels and several digital cable channels is offered at Tahlequah Cable . Standard cable runs $ 82.95 per month . Northeast Oklahoma Public Facilities Authority
For nearly 60 years , NOPFA has operated a natural gas system and is responsible for a transmission and distribution system in Cherokee County . The Authority ’ s main facility in Tahlequah is at 103 N . College Ave . Call 918-456-6268 for more details .
