Section 3 : Caring for Your Newborn
Help parents understand the steps and actions involved in soothing their newborn through visual reinforcement and practice .
If possible , have a newborn doll for each family to use . You may also want to have swaddle blankets , pacifiers , carriers and other supplies that can be used to soothe baby .

Preparation
Print and laminate the soothing strategy cards on the following pages . Optional : affix a magnet to the back of each .
Pass out one or more cards to each family and instruct them to practice the activity on each card separately then try to combine activities on all cards .
Procedure
After a few minutes , they can switch cards with their neighbor or return them to you to receive new cards .

Alternative Methods
Hand an entire set of cards to each family . Have them practice each activity separately then combine as many as they can at once to try to soothe baby .
