Good Day and welcome to your Kingdom Connection Devotional for
Friday- January 12th! It's the last devotional on a New YOU and it has been a joy sharing the many ways God wants to bless and lead your life.
As I thought about how to close out this week, it dawned on me that some people are going to be wondering.......
"Does it really take all of that? From being born again to letting God lead you though 'organized religion' AND a MAN??? Is all of this really necessary?
I do get how it can come across as a lot and it is. It's EVERYTHING being given up and EVERYTHING being something NEW. But the only person who is going to have challenges are the ones who wish to hold on to some of their "old". There are parts of their "old" that are seen as, not that bad. There are parts of the "old" that they enjoy quite a bit. So what's the deal with mixing them both together. Why not....
get saved, but skip learning the word?..
I hate reading..
learn the Bible but in the times that are convenient for me? These churches stay in too long for me...
go to church regularly so God knows I love Him but keep my side "interests" in tact as well because, honestly,
I love them too?
And all I can say is that it does not nor cannot work like that . It's all or nothing. It's the domination of God or the domination of Satan, which includes your self centered fleshly desires.
The most challenging phase of the New You is becoming the New Us.
Establishing a sound and biblically founded relationship with God is going to take work and intentionality. Christ says IF you are going to come after Him, we must first deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow Him (Mark 8:34). Now the great thing is we are wired to become products of our environments. Therefore when we immerse ourselves into the things of God and the people of God it becomes our normal. When you are in a great ministry, your focus becomes knowing God and making Him known to others. There is no greater feeling than to know you are walking in the will of God and working hand in hand with the Holy Spirit to change the lives of others.
This addresses not wanting to learn the word of God, not having a church home and your special side interest. Getting past YOUrself and the "old" is a great feat but it doesn't end there.
Many believers see changes in their lives and the lives of the others and think hey God should be very happy with this New You. And while our walk with God does have an individual aspect, it also has a corporate aspect.
We have to remember the Bible tells us Christ is coming back for His Church, not individuals. Many of us get caught up with "our" walk and we are very comfortable with "our" surroundings. The final New You has to recognize and see yourself as a part of a greater good.
The Bible tells us Christ is coming back for His church. Ephesians 5:27 says,
" That He might present it to Himself a glorious Church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish."
Some versions say without a spot or wrinkle. Paul is teaching marriages, husbands and wives, to use Christ and His church as the model. Revelation 21:9 states: Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, “Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.”
The last and probably the greatest challenge of the New You is becoming the New US that Jesus calls both His body and His bride. His personal prayer to His Father, was Lord make them one, as we are one.
That they all may be one; as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that you have sent me. John 17:21
If we ever needed this kind of prayer from our Savior it's definitely needed for this day and time.
In 2017, there is very few neighborhoods, companies, resturants etc. that are exclusively one race or class . Integration has happened on so many levels and in so many areas and ways. YET at 11AM on Sunday AM, 'The Lord's Day', races separate, classes separate and denominations separate in the BODY of CHRIST. Sure we have some cross culture going within a few churches but the Body of Christ, as a whole, especially in America, is not ONE. It's not even about religious beliefs. There are white, black, hispanic and asian BAPTIST churches. Satan has done a masterful job in keeping us separate. It is understood and preferred that each culture and class stick together. At best we may do some outreaches as a community. But to love one another with no one feeling superior and inferior is not the case in Christianity. There is still challenges in 2017 with gender in the role of leadership in many churches.
The prophet Joel prophecies, that God would pour out His Spirit on ALL flesh. Paul teaches repeatedly there is no bond or slave, no male or female, no Jew or Gentile for we are all ONE in Christ.
