New Wave Group is involved in several different international programmes focusing on environmental and ethical issues. Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh The Accord is a binding agreement designed to improve fire and building safety for the textile industry in Bangladesh. The Accord carries out inspections, provides fire safety training and renovates buildings in the area. Clean Shipping Index Textile Exchange The Clean Shipping Index encourages shipping companies to use cleaner vessels by ranking ships on their environmental performance. Transport buyers can use the Clean Shipping Index to calculate and minimise their environmental footprint. Textile Exchange is an international non-profit organisation that works to make the textile industry more sustainable by, for example, promoting organic cotton production. ÖKO-TEX Standardi 100 Amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiavite) Developed by European retail chains, AMFORI BSCI strives to improve suppliers’ working conditions in developing countries so that they can achieve the level required by international treaties. AMFORI BCSI also aims to clarify and standardise the monitoring of suppliers carried out by companies. The goal is to ensure that the products offered to customers are manufactured in socially and ethically acceptable production conditions. Hand in Hand Hand-in-Hand fights poverty with education and entrepreneurship. In approximately 7 years, the organisation has created over 1.7 million jobs in some of the world’s poorest countries. As a result, 5 million people are no longer living in extreme poverty and hundreds of thousands of children have been able to attend school. With New Wave’s funding of Hand-in-Hand, three entire villages are able to participate in the project and some 1,500 people will have their lives changed for the better. is an international textile testing and certification system. OEKO-TEX certification means that the entire value chain of a product has been tested independently and that the product is safe for the skin.
