New Richmond Utilities , is a municipally owned and operated , not-for-profit electric , water and sewer utility , serving more than 5,000 customers . We join forces with other local not-for-profit utilities through WPPI Energy to share resources in order to provide low-cost , reliable service with a community-focused personal touch . As Wisconsin ’ s first community-owned electric utility , founded in 1890 , and the 15th local government in the state to become a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources ( DNR ) Green Tier Legacy Community , we are
committed to supporting the common good . While a lot has changed over the past century , the focus of the utility has not . Today , we still offer our customers some of the lowest electric rates in the area - rates significantly lower than those in territories that are served by most investor-owned utilities . And , since we live and work in the community , we provide reliable energy with superior customer service .
