In this time of the pandemic , a lot of challenges have been faced in the field of Education . Educators are weary enough in thinking ways and strategy how to address these challenges without compromising the health of the learners , parents , and themselves . As of February 18 , 2020 , the Philippines has 552,000 cases of Covid-19 and most of these cases are seen in the Metro Manila that recorded 226 cases ( DOH , 2020 ). These cases of Covid-19 , worried the educators on how to deliver the education to the learners in time of this pandemic through the Department of education formulated a Modular Delivery Mode in conducting classes .
The delivery of Modular classes in our school has faced multitudes of challenges and obstacles . The teachers are worried about the quality of the students ' output in terms of their performance in all academic subjects that they would be having in the form of a module relying only on the instructions of the parents from the instructions of the teachers . In this case , also , the parents are given more responsibilities in teaching the learners and it worried the researcher that the parents might not correctly convey the message to their students . In the first quarter English Grade of the learners , grade 7 has 15 or 62 %, grade 8 has 25 or 76 %, grade 9 has 12 or 52 %, grade 10 has 11 or 55 % of students got a grade of 75-79 . Most of the students from grades 7 to 10 have a grade below 80 . These results are all recorded in the class record of the English teacher .
The above problem prompted the researcher to design and implement the Intervention with the title Place-Based Learning Through Open Space Class . “ Place-based learning is a pedagogical approach that uses places and their resources as a foundation for learning across disciplines . Place-based resources may be cultural , historic , or geophysical ” ( Sobel , 2012 ). In applying this place-based learning , the researcher or the teacher should adhere to the following
