Ricks became Oates’ guitar teacher and mentor and opened his eyes to an incredible legacy of music. “That’s what I brought to the table when I met Daryl Hall,” said Oates. “That’s the stuff I was doing. He laughs when asked if he ever had an addiction to Scrapple. He never liked it very much, noting that Daryl is a little bit more of the Pennsylvania Dutch side of things. What he most looks forward to when he returns to the tri-state area is seeing his father who is 95 years old and still doing well.
