Evidence of Shame Checklist The following list is a SAMPLE of some of the fruits that often point to roots of shame in our lives. Frequency or tendancies may vary from ‘Not at all’ to ‘Painfully so’. I have a fear of: - Abandonment and/or rejection - Being vulnerable - People really getting to know me - Giving myself fully to relationship - Loving and living fully - Risk - Making a mistake - Being out of control I am uncomfortable with: - Expressing emotions (especially negative ones) - Being “real”… expressing who I am; my own particular - personality, temperament, gifts, etc. I struggle with: - Forgiving others (and forgiving myself) - Feelings of worthlessness - Intense focus on self rather than on the glory of God within - Frequent depression - Compulsive or addictive habits - Perfectionism - Isolation or difficulty making close friends - Feeling chosen and deeply loved, not simply tolerated - Receiving a gift without feeling the need to repay - Persistent thoughts of mistakes made in the past - Repenting; admitting that I am wrong “Healing Shame” © Sandra Sellmer-Kersten, revised 2013, all rights reserved.
