Sibulele Mgudlwa
Student, Writer and Leader
One day while I was on Twitter, I came across a fascinating headline. I clicked on the link to read a mediocre article on a popular online newspaper about something Doomy and Gloomy. In the pop-ups I saw a picture of a young man who was writing about the rich, their wealth and their possible contributions to society. I opened the article and it fascinated me. The style was so bold and confident. The content was extremely controversial. I thought to myself, who is this person? I went on a mad internet hunt to find more interesting facts about him.
I found out that Sibulele Mgudlwa had been the president of the S.R.C at a reputable University. I also found out that after having staged a peaceful protest at this university he was then expelled. This young man didn’t take it lying down. He wrote the most interesting open letter to the Vice Chancellor of the University that I had ever read. I could tell from the tone of the letter that he held the Vice Chancellor in high esteem, but he was hurt, confused and outraged at the idea that students could be expelled for a peaceful protest comprising of no more than 50 students, where no university property was damaged.
I thought to myself, “I have to meet this person. I have to find out what he’s about”. A few tweets and emails later, we had organised an interview. We decided to meet him at Constitution Hill - for obvious reasons!
