“ STORTEC was formed in 2018, when the current directors and I decided to come together and start a business that delivered something different to the marketplace,” he opens.“ Our intention was to change the traditional market outlook in terms of how projects and contracts were delivered. We started with above ground storage for the drinking water, wastewater, and anaerobic digestion sectors, and from there, we’ ve pushed ourselves to be a more rounded contractor, providing everything from civils and storage tanks to mechanical pipe work and access steel work. Within our first year, we’ d achieved a turnover of £ 6 million with just 12 employees. Fast forward to 2025 and we’ ve got a team of 55 now with an annual turnover of £ 15 million, now delivering between 80-to-100 projects a year on average.”
Nothing short of a service-driven success, STORTEC’ s journey has been jam-packed with strategic growth and defining developments. The company’ s most pivotal development, however, was its transition from a subcontractor to a principal contractor. This shift redefined the company’ s narrative, significantly enhancing its scope of capabilities and opening the door to larger projects and partnerships. This change led STORTEC to one of its most notable partnerships with leading anaerobic digestion solutions provider, BioteCH 4
. With the two companies’ capabilities integrating harmoniously, STORTEC soon became part of the BioteCH 4 group – and the rest is history.
Our aim is to be that one contractor with the total solution to take the headache away from our clients
“ We already knew of the BioteCH 4 team when we set up the business. We approached them and said that we wanted to grow as a company and that we knew they needed anaerobic digestion facilities built, and a natural synergy formed between us,” Matt reveals.“ Being a part of the BioteCH 4 group is great because our skillset lies in the contracting of the facilities they need, so as their operations continue, we’ re able to support their ongoing service, as well as any maintenance or expansion works. Externally to the marketplace, this partnership also gives us a more rounded view of what our clients need. We can speak with experience through the knowledge of
BioteCH 4
’ s operations on how clients should design their facilities.“ Our aim is to be that one contractor with the total solution to take the headache away from our clients, and by partnering with companies who are specialists in their specific areas, such as BioteCH 4
, it brings the whole package together and strengthens our ability to deliver,” Matt continues.“ It puts us more in control of the work we do, so we can provide extra flexibility in the program for our clients’ benefit. By frequently partnering with the same suppliers, we can also streamline our efficiency and hold stock when the market changes, which, again, improves project timescales for our clients.”
