new church life: september / october 2013
We are looking forward to an outstanding year. We continue to be proud
of our own Academy and are humbled by the men and women who have
committed their time and energy to the uses of the Academy Secondary
Schools. All of us are excited to be back to the business of preparing our youth
for principled and useful lives in this world and the next.
charter day 2013
This year’s Charter Day observance in Bryn Athyn will feature two familiar
speakers in new roles:
The Rt. Rev. Brian W. Keith, the new Executive Bishop of the General
Church and Chancellor of the Academy, will give the Charter Day address in
the Cathedral.
Brian D. Henderson, popular history professor in Bryn Athyn College
and now Director of the Glencairn Museum, will speak at the banquet on the
many ways the Museum serves the Academy and its mission.
We hope to include both of these addresses in the November-December
issue of the Life.
The Charter Day celebration will kick off with an Alumni Welcome at
Cairnwood from 8 to 11 p.m. on Thursday, October17.
The Theta Alpha luncheon following the Friday service in the Cathedral
will feature Dr. Martha Gyllenhaal, Head of Fine Arts and Art History, and
assistant professor of Art at Bryn Athyn College. Her subject is: The Sacred
Building Arts and Bryn Athyn’s National Historic Landmarks – New Initiatives
on the Fine Arts Curriculum at Bryn Athyn College.
There will be no fund-raising auction before the banquet this year, giving
alumni and friends more of an opportunity for informal socializing after the
traditional football game.
The banquet will be followed by a Mix & Mingle at Heilman Hall for ages
21 and up.
The weekend will conclude with the always successful Student Scholarship
Golf Outing at Philmont Country Club.
