served as editor of New Church Life.
This small sample was drawn from among the nearly 1,200 editorials Mr.
Henderson wrote during his editorship, and they were chosen because they
were thought to be of lasting interest. That this has proven to be the case will
become obvious to anyone who reads them now, 35 years after the volume was
published.
Part of the reason they are still of interest is, of course, the topics that
they deal with. Of equal importance, however, is the manner in which Mr.
Henderson presents them. The tone is usually warm and conversational, and
this means that the reader can turn to an editorial with a question in mind and
feel that an answer is being given by a writer who is both knowledgeable and
caring.
The result is often a realization that there is nothing wrong with having
questions, and that thoughtful answers sensitively offered can provide both
knowledge and comfort long after they were originally given.
