CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
We have just completed arguably the best season in the Club’s history.
Not only did we celebrate victory in Division One Trophy for the first time in 29 years, but to
have Division Two, Three, Four and Colts Premier all finish in the Top 4 was quite
outstanding. Back that up with our new Colts Under 20 team making the Plate final, and our
Women’s team making steady improvement, it certainly was a memorable year. To cap it all
off we have a new All Black with Ryan Crotty becoming our 4th addition to the exclusive All
Black ranks.
Once again we were lucky to have a full Management Committee in place, and this year
emphasis was placed on creating several sub-committees to focus on specific functions within
the Club. This seemed to work well and meant each Committee member contributed in some
way to the functioning of the Club and shared the load. Our Strategic Plan was once again
reviewed and updated at the start of the season, and I am pleased to report that we have
achieved virtually all our goals.
The season started on a real high when we were able to confirm the addition of two new
Open Grade teams this season. We have aimed to have a Colts Under 20 team for some time,
so to finally have this team established was great news. A key point was having Craig Hubert
and Wiremu Timms in place early as coaches, which proved to be the catalyst for gathering
players for this team with Roddy’s input. The other great news was the addition of a young
Women’s team which came to the Club from Aranui High School with the assistance of
Kieran Black who was teaching at the school at the time. It was great to have these young
women in the Club this year, and while they struggled with the level of competition, their
sheer delight at scoring points and their overall improvement bodes well for the future.
The junior section continues to thrive despite the pressure on families in the eastern
suburbs. It is a great credit to Riki and his junior sub-committee that our junior numbers
increased this year, and I personally believe the decision to offer a reduced subscription was a
