Established in 1992 in Santa Cruz, California, CAPE has rescued and helped thousands of animals. In December 2012, CAPE opened a new sanctuary in Grass Valley, California.

In Santa Cruz, CAPE operates a dog rescue and adoption program taking dogs from animal shelters who are older or who have special needs. CAPE’s dedicated foster families provide care for the dogs until a permanent home is found.

In Grass Valley, CAPE operates a sanctuary for animals who have no other options of a safe place to go. Specializing in burro rescue and helping animals with disabilities, injuries or treatable medical conditions, the CAPE Animal Sanctuary provides safety, comfort and rehabilitation. Animals welcomed to the sanctuary live out the remainder of their lives with the best of care.

The only film festival of its kind in the world, CAPE is proud to present the annual Animal Film Festival (AFF). The festival takes place each winter at the Center for the Arts in beautiful downtown Grass Valley, California.

CAPE’s Ruff & Ready Program works closely with animal shelters and animal protection organizations to evaluate and transfer dogs from overcrowded shelters to shelters with ready adopters. CAPE provides needed medical care and spay and neuter services to dogs brought into this program.

Assisted Living Program - http://www.capeanimals.org/#!assisted-living-program/c213k Animals in CAPE’s assisted Living Program will live out their final years in loving CAPE foster homes. Most of the animals in this program are either very old or have untreatable medical conditions. CAPE provides emotional and financial support for the animals in this program.
