COLORFUL FALL FOLIAGE
N
EVADA COUNTY IS A FOUR SEASON destination, but fall is notable for its colorful foliage. Early settlers are
credited with planting trees that reminded them of their homes back east, and today Grass Valley and Nevada
City can claim some of the best color in the west.
The color begins to intensify in October and is often at its peak from mid-month into early November. But weather
is always a factor, so a call to the Chambers of Commerce can give up-to-date information.
Although beautiful foliage is scattered through both towns, there are some popular areas. In Nevada City, walk the
streets adjacent to downtown. Then visit Nevada Street located on the other side of the freeway. In Grass Valley,
explore the streets uphill from downtown. For example, walk up Neal Street to Pleasant Street, then back on Neal to
High Street, turn left and right on West Main Street. Also, check out Empire Mine State Park, off Hwy. 174.
