THE NEURO-ORTHOPEDIC HOSPITAL DESIGN PROGRAM
The hospital will have three, 36-bed inpatient wards, each with a specific sub-specialty: Neuro-Rehabilitation, Spinal Rehabilitation and Orthopedic Rehabilitation. The first stage of establishing the hospital will comprise the construction of two hospital wards, with adjacent high-level physiotherapy and occupational therapy departments, and the hospital’ s administrative wing. Later stages will include a third ward, a sports center and public facilities for outpatients, and a conference and research center. The planned construction will take into account the need for shelters and reinforced areas, given the hospital’ s proximity to Gaza. In the event of an active confrontation, patients from the two wards will be brought to one large area within the neuro-rehabilitation department. This area will be purpose-built from the outset as a sheltered space, within which 72 patients can be treated if necessary, without having to move them to a shelter— an impossible undertaking given the limited mobility of a large number of patients and the extremely short warning period during an alert.
