New board appointment
at Iceotope suggests an
increased adoption of
liquid cooling
Iceotope Technologies has appointed Neil Yule as Non-Exec
Director. In his new role at Iceotope, Neil has been tasked
with supporting the Board and Executive Management Team
in delivering a new generation of cooling technologies to the
hyperscale data centre market.
Formerly President of Munters’ Global Data Centre business,
where he achieved 5-fold growth over the 4 years to 2018,
Yule has an impressive track record of delivering breakthrough
cooling technologies to hyperscale data centre operators.
David Craig, Iceotope Technologies CEO, said: “We’re
delighted to have someone with Neil’s reputation and
understanding of the market joining the Board. His experience
of working with the Hyperscale operators, helping them to
take the bold steps required to give-up the comfort blanket of
traditional yet inefficient, compressor-based air cooling and
adopt the new generation of highly-efficient liquid cooling
solutions, will be invaluable.”
Yule added: “I’m proud and elated to be joining Iceotope
at the start of this exciting stage in Iceotope’s development,
moving beyond small-scale development trials and starting
to deliver large-scale liquid cooling solutions into new and
existing hyperscale data centres. The technologies that David
and his team have developed are quite remarkable, delivering
levels of efficiency that could only have been dreamt of just a
few years ago.”
Asked if he thought the time for liquid cooling had at last
arrived, Yule responded: “It’s no longer a question of if the
hyperscale data centre operators will adopt this technology,
but is instead now just a question of which of them will be the
first to announce their move”. n

DigiPlex to meet
international demand with
two new green data centres
DigiPlex has broken ground on the construction of two new data
centres near Oslo, Norway. The two centres will have a combined
facility size of 8,500 m² and represent an investment of NOK 600
million. The centres are set to be operational in just 12 months –
before the end of 2020.
International customers are increasingly attracted to Norway
because of its cool climate, low cost 100% renewable energy and
proximity to large European markets. DigiPlex has been building
on these natural advantages for nearly two decades by securing
premium land and bringing in the engineering and deployment
capability to meet the specific requirements of these global
businesses.
The two new state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly
data centres will follow DigiPlex’s modular design principles and
will be equipped with the company’s award-winning air-to-air
cooling system. The high-efficiency system is uniquely suited to
the Nordic climate where DigiPlex operates, yielding efficiencies
and cost savings up to 25% beyond the industry average. The
majority of the capacity is reserved for global customers. n
