The Internet of Things is the
catalyst for the move to 10G LAN
Today we’re witnessing an array of devices that previously
existed in isolation, being connected to networks as part
of the Internet of Things (IoT). The demand and strain
these connected devices are putting on existing networks
is something businesses can’t shy away from; they must
embrace new technologies and make the move to 10
Gigabit (10G) local area network (LAN) connectivity.
The IoT is making its mark throughout the business
landscape – it’s a tech transformation that will bring
numerous opportunities for both small- and medium-sized
businesses. And although the IoT may be more familiar to
larger organisations, it will eventually touch and permeate
throughout the whole of the supply chain, of which SMBs
are a major contributor.
This is an historic transition in which a rising network of
physical objects will be communicating via the Internet,
talking to each other as well as with their external
environments. It has been predicted, and regularly discussed,
that there will be 26 billion connected devices being used
across the globe by 2020.
A data flood
The influx of millions of new gadgets and sensors created
by IoT will bring an
