NEW FITNESS INDUSTRY CODE
OF PRACTICE ANNOUNCED
Fitness Australia's newly appointed chairperson, Jayne Blake, has
wasted no time in unveiling the registration provider’s new National
Fitness Industry Code of Practice.
Blake, who replaced retiring chairperson David Allan in November,
described the consolidation of all State and Territory Codes of Practice
into one national Code as a major milestone for the fitness industry.
‘We took six previous state and territory codes of practice, the
Fitness Australia Business Principles guide, current Australian
consumer law and extensive industry consultation as reference points
to draft the National Fitness Industry Code of Practice’ she said;
‘We’re proud to say that this code is now the new standard of business
operation in the contemporary Australian fitness industry, and is
supported by the Australian Fitness Industry Standards Council.’
Designed for fitness service operators in the industry, the purpose
of the code is to promote appropriate standards of trading, inspire
consumer confidence and enable business operators to conduct
services in a professional and ethical manner.
'It’s important that we, as the peak national association, help
fitness businesses implement a benchmark and make it simple for
them to apply the Code
to their business, in
particular streamlining
it for implementation on
a national scale’ said
Blake; ‘Our organisation
exists to empower the
industry
to
engage
more
Australians
in
quality
health
and
fitness services – this
is one of the ways in
which we’re contributing
to
professionalising
exercise and building
consumer confidence.’
