What is the best way of letting people know about my new business, on a limited budget? Word of mouth is one of the most cost-effective and influential marketing tools, either in person or via PR/social media, brand ambassadors and advocates. But it requires simple, compelling messages to spread consistently. First things first: work out your name, brand, what you stand for, and what you offer in three or four key messages that are clear, concise and easy to spread. Secondly, think about what your customers want. Who are they and why are they going to come to your outdoor training over another, the local gym or a run? Next up, think about where you will find them when they're in the right frame of mind to listen: at home, the park, the office, the shops, Instagram or Facebook? Fourthly, what's the look and feel of your communications? Consider logo, colours, fonts, imagery style, tone of voice and language. Finally, put together a basic toolkit of business card, email signature, brochure, t-shirts, 1-page website or profile, social media page and program template. I wish you all the best!
