Single
minded
The Phoenix Contact range of SFP
modules for managed switches
has now been extended to include
Wavelength Division Multiplex
(WDM) variants for 100Mb/s and
1000Mb/s. With the new modules,
data transmission only takes place
via a single optical fibre.
WDM technology enables data
to be transmitted and received
simultaneously, ie., bi-directionally,
on a singlemode fibre. This does
not limit the transmission quality
or bandwidth. The technology is
often used for rotating applications
such as rotary tables or wind turbine
generators. This means that switches
and other network components
can be economically and reliably
connected with just one fibre via
optical rotary transformers.

Automatic recognition
D-Link’s new DGS-1100-26MP Max PoE smart managed switch has been designed to dramatically simplify
the installation and management of IP CCTV systems.
Part of D-Link’s DGS-1100 MP/MPP series of Gigabit smart managed surveillance switches, the range
benefits from the unique inclusion of ONVIF support, this enables the DGS-110-26MP to automatically
recognise both D-Link and third party IP cameras, network video recorders (NVRs) and other IP devices such
as access control systems. Automatic device recognition via ONVIF means installation teams just need to
plug network cables into CCTV cameras and other components, connect the cables to the smart switch and
the system’s elements will appear in the switch’s dedicated surveillance optimised web interface. With a
power budget of 370W, the switch is able to power multiple devices over the network simultaneously.
Also on offer is the option to enter a conventional networking control panel, giving the fine-grained
control of all networking options that IT teams expect. Featuring 6KV surge protection and supporting
high powered PoE standards the DGS-1100-26MP ensures maximum flexibility and the opportunity to
simplify networks.

Fantastic four
Harting has launched a new
connector which incorporates
an integrated Ethernet switch.
The new US4 connector is the
first device in which switch
functionality resides directly
in the connector, making
it possible to network four
EtherNet/IP or Profinet nodes
with transmission speeds of up
to 1,000Mb/s.
With this enhancement,
Harting’s Han-Modular
connector family lends support
to the trend toward integrated
networking, enabling EtherNet/
IP and Profinet based communication to be extended over the plant management level control
through to the enterprise level.
The US4 connector module features integrated LEDs to provide quick and easy power and
network diagnostics for individual ports, displaying both the presence of the Ethernet connection
as well as ongoing data exchange and the associated speed information.
The module automatically detects the send/receive lines of connected devices and finds
the correct settings for the lines. In addition, in conjunction with the 10Base-T and 100BaseTx interfaces, it autonomously corrects polarity errors in wire pairs and reverses the polarity of
the data signal. It also allows two connected Ethernet nodes to autonomously negotiate and
configure the maximum data transfer rate – up to 1,000Mb/s incrementally – as well as the type of
transmission, ie. half-duplex or full duplex.
The US4 switch seamlessly integrates into existing Han-Modular systems, with the interfaces
required to extend an Ethernet network fitting into existing modular Han connectors.

Speed and power
The Edgecore Networks ECS2100-28P switch
offers the necessary speed and power required
for the new Ethernet systems.
Whether the network is needed for
wireless access points, IP cameras, HVAC,
traditional data or access control, the
ECS2100-28P has the port speed and PoE
budget to cope.
The ECS2100 Series supports 8, 24, and
48 10/100/1000Base-T ports, with each switch
supporting 2 or 4 Gigabit SFP ports.
As well as IPv4 and IPv6 features, the
ECS2100 supports L3 static routing. The
ECS2100 includes the best green-saving
technologies (IEEE 802.3az and GreenEthernet). Using the Energy Efficient Ethernet
standard, the switch automatically decreases
power usage when network traffic is low.
All Edgecore products are supported
under a Limited Lifetime Advance
Replacement Product Warranty. Products will
be supported up to two years from being
made End of Life. Software warranty is 90 days.
Mayflex distributes the Edgecore range in
the UK.
