Tempest
debuts projector
enclosure
Tempest has launched a projector
enclosure dubbed the Metro, which is
specifically designed to tackle challenging
public space environments, including
stations, airports and subway systems.
Metro meets stringent safety criteria
demanded by such environments, and
features an inner IP65-rated enclosure,
with a one-hour fire rating. The design
also incorporates the latest counter
flow heat exchanger technology which
isolates internal and external air flows to
deliver decent cooling per formance.
‘With the advent of laser phosphor
video projectors, the economics of
projection for adver tising and information
in public spaces have been transformed,
with projection becoming a viable
option for these areas due to tumbling
maintenance costs,’ says Tim Burnham,
president of Tempest.
‘We have addressed a demand for
enclosures in this area by painstakingly
creating an all-new enclosure to satisfy
stringent safety criteria and enable 24/ 7
projection in stations, subways and
other safety-critical environments. As
well as encompassing all of our industry
knowhow, Metro features a host of design
innovations which has allowed us to
create an enclosure capable of delivering
in this challenging environment.’
Tempest par tnered with Swedish heat
exchanger specialists Heatex to design
a highly efficient counter flow heat
exchanger capable of cooling loads of up
to 2,000W in ambient temperatures as
high as 40°C. Fans pass ambient air over
an array of specially formed aluminium
plates at high velocity, removing the
heat from the projector from the internal,
recirculating air flow on the other side of
the plates.

Elo launches I-Series of
signage solutions
Elo says its I-Series all-in-one product
family is designed for all needs in retail
and hospitality applications, combining
modern mobile architecture with the
flexibility and configurability of traditional
POS systems which help to reduce cost
of hardware in POS environments.
The company says that combined
with SpacePole mounts by Ergonomic
Solutions, you can create a sleek design
and an ergonomic solution that is simple,
effective and secure.
With flexible VESA mounts and
poles, customisation of tailored
space saving and cost efficient POS
installations is easy, the company says.
Available in five colours to suit different
environments, with 38mm or 44.5mm
diameter base poles and internal cable
management, SpacePole Essential poles
and mounts allow strategic placement of
the touchscreen.

Keeping Quietly Cool
Penn Elcom has
launched the CoolRac
FT-80-Q-FC, a near-
silent exhaust fan,
specially designed
for flight casing that
requires efficient and
quiet heat management.
The company says
the product sets new
standards in flight case
cooling, with total noise
levels of the FT-80-
Q-FC in operation just
22.5 dBA, which Penn
Elcom says is a dramatic
reduction to average fan noise levels.

Nine fan blades improve the air flow and facilitate highly efficient ventilation.
The impeller aerofoil shape was specifically devised to minimise the noise levels
and deliver more air flow and pressure. (Fans should be cleaned regularly to
ensure optimum per formance).
The CRC-TEMP is a thermal sensor accessory that can be attached via an
acrylic adhesive pad and plugged in to the TEMP socket on the FT-80-Q-FC. This
should ideally be located in an area where it can measure ambient temperature
rather than directly attached to the main heat source.
The unit’s thermal bi-metal reed switch is made to operate at temperatures
up to 40°C and it will re-set when the ambient temperature reaches 30°C or
drops to minus 2°C.
